Maryland Adventures 2010 - Pt 1

For a season that has been reasonably dry, with hoards of people visiting the farm on a daily basis, I have managed to break out of the animal pens and see some of the sights in the surrounding area.

Really it is pathetic I haven’t had more opportunity to explore, with Washington DC less than an hour away and Baltimore a mere 20 minutes, I have little excuse (except a serious lack of time!) to not check out the capital and one of America’s gun crime capitals.

In fact, whilst we’re on the subject of criminality, I had a google to find some stats relating to Baltimore’s infamous gun crime. This list here ranks it number 13, and if it is to be believed, I have therefore visited 4 of the 25 most dangerous places in the USA! How exciting.

I digress, the first of my little outings was a Friday evening Ghost Tour. Ellicott City (namely the ‘old’ part) is supposedly the most haunted place in Maryland, with numerous sightings reported in the last 5 years. The ladies and I enjoyed a tour around various buildings where the ghostly goings on were said to have happened and had the pleasure of enjoying random anecdotes about Ellicott City from our guide.

We topped off our fun little evening with my new favourite hang out.. Tutti Fruitti. Merchants of frozen yogurt, Tutti Fruitti sell their wares by the ounce. You get your cup, self serve whatever flavour you would like* and add as many sprinkles, chocolate, syrup or topping as you want. It’s 49c an ounce, my record is a $5.30 bowl which is a reasonably sized tub and who can put a price on all that fun of self service anyway!

After visiting 3 (or is it 4? I forget) times, I have now perfected my ultimate bowl; tutti fruitti, green apple and natural sharp yogurt, topped with coconut sprinkles, marshmallows and pomegranate seeds. Delicious! Sharp, sweet and crunchy.

Mine is on the bottom right, on this occasion I added some kiwi fruit.

* Flavours include; coffee, chocolate, natural sharp, vanilla, cookies and cream, tutti fruitti (a berry like flavour), strawberries and splenda. Plus whatever flavour of the week they are currently running. When I first went they had green tea flavour, which was disgusting, thankfully they swiftly replaced it with green apple - much better!
